Reliability, I believe, constitutes of two major activities: predictions and maintenance.

For a system to be reliable and in turn sustainable, the designer has to consider possible scenarios that the system might encounter and also create an operations and maintenance plan for that system. In order for this to happen, the quality and structure of components in that system needs to be known.

Kayode Omolasho recognizes the importance of product quality in the sustainability of renewable energy power, economic growth as well as increased energy access in his think piece here

“Quality management of product has to be achieved if the energy generation targets are to be met and sustained.”

A few suggestions he has are also related to the work being done by organizations such as REAN in ensuring the standardization of solar power components.
